Make recording an explicit choice
Under Optional recording, select Screen, Voice or Webcam for the Mission. All three start off. The tester reviews each offered choice before starting and grants browser permissions themselves. Only permitted project team members can save Recording settings. Astor checks the current role again when saving; an earlier permission or retry cannot restore removed access. Changing the options does not start a recording or replace the tester’s device approval.
If recording is unavailable, Astor shows a short notice; Mission steps and written feedback still work. Recording & privacy explains the media lifecycle. The cost of automatic analysis appears when recording is selected.
Recording is optional. Testers on browsers without supported tab recording can still submit Mission steps and written results.
During the test
Choose the website tab to share and avoid passwords or sensitive pages. Recording can contain private information: masking in a saved screenshot does not redact the raw screen video.
Recording stops on pause, page hiding/navigation, ending screen sharing, closing the toolbar or reaching the current five-minute limit. Resuming requests devices again; Astor does not silently restart a microphone.
Save or discard
Finishing waits for the media upload. If it fails, retry or discard the recording and keep the steps and written result. Raw files use private storage. While the recording is still available, open Raw recordings and choose Load recording for a segment. Nothing plays automatically. Repeated loads are limited to 50 per minute for your account or personal test link; wait a minute before retrying a limit notice. Playback requires current project access and does not start analysis or use project capacity. Raw screen video is not automatically masked.
Uploads check current membership, the personal test link or the exact toolbar/sign-in session again after a delayed storage reply. Removed access, an ended session or a discarded/expired recording cannot accept that reply. Existing steps and saved results stay intact; an unsent note still needs a successful save.
Optional analysis includes transcription and a bounded sample of frames. It does not inspect every video moment or infer a person’s emotions, attention or identity. Its quoted cost uses the project pool. Transcription estimates retain the cost rates from the start of each request; provider estimates and returned project capacity are separate.
Analysis checks the requesting team member’s current project access throughout preparation. If access or the recorded source changes, it stops before the next transcription or analysis step and leaves the written result and steps intact. An outdated reply is not saved; reserved capacity returns to the project. Costs for provider work that already started remain recorded separately.
What remains
Closing Raw recordings stops unfinished playback requests and releases the loaded media from this view. Playback becomes unavailable after successful analysis, discard or expiry. Material already received by an authorized person cannot be recalled from their device. If a segment cannot load, use Retry recording or continue with the written result and steps.
Open Screenshots to load the retained screen samples. Closing the section stops unfinished image requests; opening it again loads the samples with your current access. The written result and recorded steps stay visible separately.
Recording & privacy describes the lifecycle before you start. After successful analysis, raw media enters cleanup while relevant transcript and approved product screen material remain. Temporary webcam images are removed. Unprocessed recordings expire after 24 hours. Their speech and screen samples become unavailable at expiry, even if storage cleanup is delayed. A pending analysis cannot extend that deadline or save a late result. The original written result and steps remain; an interrupted attempt returns its reserved capacity.
Raw-file deletion may need retries and must wait for any issued upload token to expire. An expiry notice does not mean every storage copy has already been deleted.
Voice feedback’s optional local tab video has a different lifecycle and stays on the tester’s device. See Voice feedback and privacy.
